ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team opened the second half with a 30-15 run to build a six-point lead, but Saint Michael's College used a late three-point shot to hold off the Redhawks 81-79 on Saturday afternoon at the Voller Athletic Center.
Senior
Ryan Garwood gave the Redhawks a 79-78 advantage on a layup with 1:08 to play, but CJ Crews hit from beyond the arc to give the Purple Knights the lead back.
Roberts had two potential game-winning shots bounce off the rim in the final 20 seconds, including one at the buzzer.
Graduate student
Malik Brooks paced the Redhawks (2-3) with 20 points, 7 rebounds and five assists.
Jermaine Taggart II added 13 points while Garwood and
Trey Kleitz each scored 11.
Keonjay Carter scored nine points for Roberts, which trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, and
Nasir Hammonds added nine rebounds.
Roberts will host Edinboro University at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Voller Athletic Center.
