ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Caleigh Schroeder handed out a career-high 59 assists and fellow junior Olivia Price had a career-best 20 digs to go with her team-leading 20 kills for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Volleyball team Saturday but it was not enough as St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) rallied for a 17-15 win in the fifth set to win a 3-2 decision in the East Coast Conference (ECC) match at the Voller Athletic Center.
STAC (7-14 overall, 1-7 ECC) won the first two sets 25-14 and 29-27 but Roberts (11-9, 2-5 ECC) rallied to tie the score with wins of 25-16 and 29-27 in the third and fourth sets to force the fifth set tiebreaker.
The Redhawks put together a three-point run to open up an 11-8 lead in the final set with a Price kill and a Schroeder ace. Schroeder finished with five aces on the day.
The teams traded points before the Spartans scored three straight points to knot the game at 12-12. A kill by sophomore Camryn Karelus gave Roberts a 13-12 lead but STAC answered with two points to regain the lead at 14-13. Another Karelus kill tied the score again at 14-14 but the Spartans scored three of the final four points to earn the victory.
For the day, Price finished with her 20-20 day with 20 kills and 20 digs and had an impressive .366 attack percentage. Karelus added 16 kills and a .344 average shile seniors Sydney Yanak and Jaycee Karelus had 13 kills each.
Schroeder handed out 59 assists, nine digs and five aces while senior Teagan Weber had 15 digs. Senior Sarina Pasquantonio had 12 digs and Yanak added 11 for the Redhawks.
Roberts is back in action Sunday with another ECC match at 12 p.m. against Mercy University in the Voller Athletic Center.
