AMHERST, NY – Graduate student Malik Brooks scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half as the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team built and early lead but St. Anselm University rallied for a late first half run and cruised to a 103-69 win Friday night in the first round of the East Coast Classic Tournament at Daemen University.
Roberts (0-1) had an early 17-14 advantage and trailed by just two points at 35-33 with six minutes remaining in the opening half.
St. Anselm (1-0) closed the half on a 16-4 run to build a lead and extended the lead in the second half.
The Hawks used a 60 percent shooting effort in the first half to build the early lead and finished shooting 38-for-65 (.585) from the field.
Roberts was limited to 26-for-73 (.356) shooting from the field in the game.
Brooks led the Redhawks with 19 points and also grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds. Sophomore Trey Kleitz finished with 12 points with 4-for-4 shooting including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Junior Armando Camacho and sophomore Keonjay Carter each scored 10 points for Roberts.
The Redhawks return to action Saturday for the second game of the tournament against Chestnut Hill College with a 12 p.m. start.
