Redhawks Bounce Back With Win At Walsh

Box Score NORTH CANTON, OHIO – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team used a big second quarter to earn a 14-6 victory over Walsh University in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon.
The Redhawks (2-1) outscored the Cavaliers 7-2 in the second to build a 9-4 lead at the half. Junior Gunner MacMillan and senior Dan Doviak each scored three goals in the second as Roberts used an 8-0 run bridging the first and second quarters to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 9-2 lead before allowing the final two goals of the half.
"It was the fastbreak," Redhawks coach Rocky Delfino said when discussing the key to the decisive run. "We rode them hard, caused some turnovers and got some transition goals. We also got a couple of nice set plays out of the six-on-six."
MacMillan finished with five goals and three assists and Doviak scored four goals. Senior Matt Walsh scored twice and freshman Colton Ugine, who opened the scoring for the Redhawks with his first collegiate goal, added a goal and an assist.
Justin Skelly and Ethan Brown also found the back of the net for Roberts while sophomore Isaac Marrero went 7-for-11 (63.6%) on face-offs and led Roberts with nine ground balls.
Sophomore Garrett Kayser had a strong game in goal with 12 saves.
The win was Roberts' fifth straight against Walsh and came just 48 hours after a 16-3 loss to Seton Hill in the Redhawks' home opener.
"We bounced back," Delfino said. "I think that we've learned some things. We still have some things that we need to get better at, but we will continue to work hard and keep improving."
The Redhawks road trip continues on Wednesday at Barton College in Wilson, N.C. First faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
