WILSON, N.C. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to rally past host Barton College 11-8 in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Gunner MacMillan scored twice and
Dan Doviak and
Matt Walsh also found the back of the net as the Redhawks (3-1) turned a 6-4 halftime deficit into an 8-6 lead.
"I am proud of the guys," Roberts coach
Rocky Delfino said. "We got a couple of fast breaks to get us going and then some of our shots started to go."
Doviak finished with four goals for Roberts and MacMillan finished with three goals and an assist. Senior
Jordon Deats added two goals and three assists and
Ethan Brown also scored.
The Redhawks, who were playing their third game in five days, also received a strong effort from their defense and goalie
Garrett Kayser, who made 11 saves.
"Our close defense is tough," Delfino said. "Nobody is able to dodge
Parker Bossard, so if we don't give up fast breaks, we are going to be tough to score on."
The Redhawks also dominated on face-offs as sophomore
Isaac Marrero won 15 of 23 face-offs and led Roberts wth six ground balls.
"Ike did a great job," Delfino said. "He is just a gritty face-off guy. He gets right in there and battles and lets our defense and wings get the ball."
Luke Delavak scooped five ground balls and
Sam Keens forced four turnovers.
The Redhawks return to action at 2 p.m. Friday against Mount Olive University in Mount Olive, N.C.
