Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team's comeback attempt came up just short on Friday afternoon as the University of Mount Olive held on for an 11-10 non-conference win over the Redhawks.
Mount Olive scored five straight goals over an 8:34 span bridging the third and fourth quarters to take an 11-8 lead with 8:39 to play. The Redhawks (3-2), who were playing their fourth game in seven days. responded with the next two goals.
Senior
Jordon Deats notched an unassisted goal with 6:05 remaining and freshman
Preston Steve finished an assist from Deats with 3:29 left to bring the Redhawks within one, but Roberts was unable to score the equalizer.
"We just kind of ran out of gas, but we did some good things out there," Roberts coach
Rocky Delfino said. "I liked that we were able to keep battling and competing throughout the game."
Junior
Gunner MacMillan scored four goals to lead Roberts. Deats added three goals and an assist and Steve and
Dan Doviak each contributed a goal and an assist.
Jacob Zimmerman also scored for Roberts.
Sophomore
Isaac Marrero continued to be strong on face-offs, winning 15 of 23, and securing five ground balls.
Brady Kustra added four ground balls for Roberts.
Sophomore
Garrett Kayser made 10 saves for the Redhawks, who finished their trip to Ohio and North Carolina with a 2-1 record.
"Of course you want to win every game, but these were close, competitive games," Delfino said. "We are just going to keep learning and growing."
Roberts returns to action at 4 p.m., Friday, March 1 at Assumption.
