Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team overcame a slow start to earn its first win of the season on Saturday.
Graduate student
Lucy Rugaber scored six goals and junior
Annie Mulhall added four as the Redhawks rallied from a 7-5 deficit after the first quarter and defeated Walsh University 15-11 in a non-conference game.
"We found a way to get the job done," Roberts coach
Kristin Paolini said. "Offensively, we have been focusing on connection and not just putting the ball in the back of the net. We have been working on all of the things that need to happen before that and today I think that we did them."
Rugaber scored the first three goals of the second quarter to give Roberts an 8-7 lead. The Redhawks (1-3) outscored the Cavaliers 5-0 in the second quarter and 4-2 in the third to build a five-goal lead.
Junior midfielder
Emma Blumenstock distributed the ball well while registering five assists. Sophomore
Kadie Tierney scored three goals and
Ella Dossier and
Alison Dioguardi each added one for the Redhawks. Dossier also collected two assists.
Senior
Madelyn Robinson led the defensive effort for Roberts by causing five turnovers and securing five ground balls. Junior

After playing their first three games against nationally ranked opponents, the Redhawks were happy to have earned the victory.
"We are looking to take what we have learned from each game and apply it to the next," Paolini said.
Roberts plays a non-conference game at East Stroudsburg University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
