WINONA LAKE, IN. – The Clinton College men's basketball team made seven of its eight field-goal attempts in overtime and went on to a 108-99 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University in the opening round of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I National Championship on Wednesday.
Roberts (13-14) led the game for 34:13, but the Bears outscored the Redhawks 14-7 in the final 2:30 of overtime to close the game out.
Senior guard
Malik Brooks scored 29 points to lead Roberts. Brooks made a free throw with 14 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 86 and send it to overtime. Brooks also added 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Junior guard
Kevin Constant scored 22 points and added 12 rebounds for Roberts.
Jermaine Taggart II and
Ryan Garwood both contributed 13 points and
Ryan Hudson pulled down 10 rebounds.
The game featured 11 ties and nine lead changes. Clinton made 30 of 43 free-throw attempts while Roberts connected on 15 of 18.
The Redhawks will return to action at 10:15 on Thursday morning.
