CHARLESTON, WV – A balanced attack all day helped the Roberts Wesleyan Women's Volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of competition at the UC Invitational at the University of Charleston.
Roberts (4-2) defeated Converse University 3-1 early in the day as senior Caleigh Schroeder eclipsed the 1,000-career assists milestone but dropped a 3-1 decision later Friday night to host Charleston.
Against Converse (5-2), Roberts rebounded from a 25-23 loss in the first set to win the next three by scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 28-26.
Senior Teagan Weber had a career-high 31 digs in the opener and led the defense with 18 digs in the second match of the day.
Sophomore Camryn Karelus led the Redhawks with 16 kills and a .324 attack percentage in the opener while junior Olivia Price added 14 kills and 18 digs for a double-double. Senior Sydney Yanak also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Schroeder sailed past the 1000-career assists milestone with her 47 assists in the opener. Combined with her 39 assists in the second match, her career total now stands at 1,071. She added 23 digs and five aces against Converse and another 11 digs and five aces in the Charleston match.
Roberts will play a pair of matches Saturday on the second day of the tournament with a 10 a.m. match against Elizabeth City State and a 2 p.m. match against Barton College.
