Bunch Scores to Cap Women’s Soccer Comeback

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Nevaeh Bunch scored from 25 yards out after a perfect pass from junior Cami Brescia to give the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team a 3-2 lead late in the game and the Redhawks held on for the victory over Queens College Saturday in the East Coast Conference (ECC) opener.

Brescia scored the lone goal in the first half to give Roberts (3-2-1 overall, 1-0-0 ECC) the early lead with junior Kara Choate picking up the assist on the play.

Queens (2-3-0, 0-1-0 ECC) answered with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the second half to take a lead.

Midway through the second half, the Redhawks were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box and junior Alyssa Hackett nailed the kick to knot the score at 2-2 with 26:18 left to play.

With less than eight minutes remaining, Brescia drew a pair of defenders near the top of the box but feed a crossing pass to the middle of the field and Bunch sent a shot over the outstretched hands of the Queens goalkeeper into the top of the goal for the eventual game-winning goal.

The Knights held a 15-11 shots edge and led in corner kicks 6-2.

Freshman Mia Tyndell made four saves to earn the first conference victory of her career.

Roberts returns to action Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game against Daemen in ECC play on the Redhawks Turf Field.
