ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team considers Tuesday's non-league match against Daemen a learning experience.
A total of 17 Redhawks saw the field with 15 playing 30 minutes or more in a 5-2 non-conference defeat.
"We got a lot of players minutes today," Roberts coach
Jeff Vieira said. "As a coaching staff, we want to bring all 27 players along with us and by getting a lot of players minutes, everybody will be in a better position to help the team if and when they are called upon."
Roberts (3-3-1) fell behind 3-0 in the first 33 minutes before scoring two goals within 37 seconds late in the first half. Freshman
Elizabeth Miller sent a 25-yard strike into the net off an assist by sophomore
Miah Lathrop for her first collegiate goal at 38:54 and junior
Kaeleigh Romero scored her first of the season at 39:31.
The goal was special for Romero because it was her first since sustaining an injury that caused he to miss the final seven games of the 2023 season.
"It was nice to come back," Romero said. "(The goal) was kind of a relief because we really needed one at that point."
ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Kylie Miranto scored twice for Daemen which held an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Fifth-year keeper
Nicolette Knauf made six saves for Roberts.
The Redhawks will host the College of Staten Island in an East Coast Conference game at 1 p.m. Saturday on Homecoming Weekend before turning around to play at Daemen in an ECC match at 1 p.m. on Oct. 2.
