DOBBS FERRY, NY – After three and a half scoreless periods for the Roberts Wesleyan Field Hockey team against Mercy University, the Mavericks broke free after a penalty corner to score the only goal of the game and held on for a 1-0 victory in the first game of the season for both teams.
The Redhawks (0-1) had a scoring chance shortly after the goal but the shot by senior Katie Krawczyk was saved by Mercy (1-0) goalie Rebecca McCLure preserved the shutout effort.
Roberts managed five shots on goal in the game, including three in the first quarter but were outshot 7-1 in the final 15 minutes of the contest.
Sophomore Avery Richardson made 18 saves.
The Redhawks return to action Sunday at Molloy University.
