BROOKLYN, NY – Junior Moises Jimenez recorded 12 digs and sophomore Griffin Monrad had 14 kills for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball team but an early 2-0 sets deficit was too much to overcome as NCAA Division I Long Island University handed Roberts its first loss of the season 3-1 Thursday night.
LIU (1-0) opened its 2025 season with the victory after winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-16. Roberts (2-1) rallied for a 26-24 win in the third set but a 25-21 win in the fourth set sealed the match victory for the Sharks.
Jimenez led the Roberts defense with 12 digs and added three blocks while Monrad led the Redhawks offense with 14 kills.
Freshman Landon Brouwer handed out 29 assists and fellow freshman Ryan DeJohn had seven kills and seven digs while sophomore Paul Fillion registered nine kills.
Roberts continues the road trip to the metro area with a 2 p.m. match Friday at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
