Men’s Basketball Falls in Double OT at D’Youville

BUFFALO, NY – Junior Arnardo Camacho scored a team-high 21 points and helped the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team hold a lead until late in the second half before D'Youville University rallied to tie the game and the Saints held on for an 86-80 win in double overtime Wednesday night in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game.

Roberts (7-10 overall, 4-3 ECC) held a slim lead for nearly the entire game before D'Youville (3-14, 1-7 ECC) rallied to take a lead with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.

Camacho hit a driving layup with 18 seconds left in the second half to tie the score and after a missed 3-pointer by the Saints, a pair of turnovers ended the half and sent the game into overtime.

Each team scored five points in the first 5-minute overtime and sophomore Nasir Hammonds drained a 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime but time had expired and the basket did not count as the teams headed to a second extra period.

Senior Ryan Garwood hit a pair of free throws to tie the score in the second overtime but the Saints scored the final six points of the period to pull out the victory.

Camacho led Roberts with 21 points while senior Jermaine Taggart II scored 18 and sophomore Trey Kleitz added 11 points. Graduate student Malik Brooks had 13 points before going down with an injury late in the first half. He would not return to the game. Camacho adde six rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals in the game.

Roberts returns to action Saturday at home against Daemen University in the annual Golisano Children's Hospital fundraising event at the Voller Athletic Center.
