HACKENSACK, NJ – Freshman Ryan DeJohn had 15 kills and a .382 attack percentage and junior Moises Jimenez had 13 digs for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball team but a late comeback effort fell shorts as the Redhawks dropped a 3-1 decision to Farleigh Dickinson University Friday night in the first of two matches against the Knights in New Jersey.
Farleigh Dickinson (2-1) won the first set 25-18 and then held on for a tight 31-29 win in the second set before Roberts (2-3) battled back to win the third set 25-21. The Knights took a late lead and win a 25-22 fourth set to seal the match victory.
DeJohn led the offense and Jimenez led the defense for the Redhawks while the trio of sophomore Griffin Monrad, freshman Patrick Bodecker and sophomore Paul Fillion recorded eight kills each. Monrad added a pair of aces and Bodecker had a team-leading four blocks.
Freshman Landon Brouwer handed out a season-high 33 assists.
The same two teams will battle for a second time at 1 p.m. Saturday before the Redhawks return to Rochester for the home-opening matches January 30 against Geneva College and Houghton University.
