CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – Sophomore Griffin Monrad had a big day for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball team with 15 kills, 10 digs, four aces and three blocks as the Redhawks posted a 3-1 win over Thomas More University to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Roberts (2-0) won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22 but Thomas More (0-1) took the third set 25-21. The Redhawks rallied to take a commanding lead in the fourth set and finished off the match with a 25-17 win.
Senior Jonah Grbic had a pair of kills late in the opening set to give the Redhawks a boost and a service ace for Monrad finished off the set.
Freshman Ryan DeJohn recorded two kills and Monrad added a kill in the final points of the second set as Roberts scored the final three points of the set to win 25-22.
In the fourth set, the Redhawks used an 8-1 run to take an 18-6 lead. Freshman Patrick Bodecker had three kills in the run and Monrad delivered a pair of aces as Roberts took the commanding lead. Late in the set, Monrad and sophomore Paul Fillion combined on a block and each added a kill to close out the match.
Monrad led Roberts with the 15 kills and four aces. DeJohn and Grbic added seven kills eachand freshman Landon Brouwer handed out 33 assists. Junior Libero Moises Jimenez led the defense with 12 digs and Bodecker finished with six kills on a .455 attack percentage with two blocks and two aces.
The Redhawks return to action next Thursday at Long Island University and Friday at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
