ST. LOUIS – Freshman
Natalee Lawrence scored three goals and the Roberts Wesleyan University field hockey team defeated Coker University 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Maryville University.
Lawrence, who has five goals this season, opened the scoring with 19 seconds remaining in the first quarter off an assist by
Makena Tooley.
Sophomore
Gabby Croniser scored her first goal of the season 5:40 into the second quarter to give the Redhawks (5-5) a 2-0 lead.
Coker responded by scoring the next two goals, one in the second quarter and one in the third, before Lawrence answered to give Roberts a 3-2 lead with just under three minutes left in the third.
The goal was the first of three in a 10-minute span for the Redhawks. Tooley converted a feed from
Mia Robinson four minutes later and Lawrence completed her hat trick off an assist from
Ava Barker with 8:07 to play. Tooley also has five goals this season.
Coker added a late goal to close out the scoring.
Junior
Avery Richardson made eight saves for Roberts, which outshot Coker 19-14.
The Redhawks will play Maryville on Monday afternoon.
