ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Julia Lukasik scored on a penalty stroke and sophomore Peyton Ayer finished a play in front of the goal as the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team scored a 2-0 victory over SUNY Oswego Thursday afternoon on the Roberts Turf Field.
Roberts (6-6) had an early penalty stroke but Oswego (4-10) goalie Sam Krautheim made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.
Three minutes into the second period the Redhawks were awarded a second penalty corner and Lukasik sent a shot over the hands of the goalie for the first goal of the contest.
In the third quarter, Roberts continued the pressure offense and a play along the end line resulted in the goal for Ayer, her first goal of the season and second goal of her career. Sophomore Makena Tooley lifted a pass across the mouth of the goal and Ayer was able to slap the ball out of the air in into the back of the goal for the 2-0 lead.
Roberts held an 11-0 edge in shots and a 10-2 lead in penalty corners.
The Redhawks will play on the road at Elmira College October 25 and finish the home schedule October 29 against Mansfield.
