Second Half Surge Drops Field Hockey on the Road

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – After a scoreless tie in the first half of play Saturday afternoon, the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team surrendered a pair of goals in each of the final two quarters as Pace University took a 4-0 victory over the Redhawks at Peter X. Finnerty Field.

Junior goalie Avery Richardson made 10 saves in the first half and kept the ball out of the cage despite an 11-2 edge in penalty corners for the Setters (4-6).

Pace scored first six minutes into the second half and added a penalty stroke goal before the end of the period to take a 2-0 lead.

In the final quarter, Pace added to its lead with a pair of goals off penalty corners for the final margin of victory.

Pace held a 31-3 shots advantage and a 23-2 edge in shots on goal for the game. The Setters also held a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Richardson had a season-best 18 saves in the game. The 18 saves in a game ranks 15th in the country for single-game totals and Richardson is ranked 14th in the country with nearly six saves per game.

Roberts continues the current road trip with a game at Slippery Rock University Wednesday before traveling to St. Louis for games vs. Coker University and at Maryville University next Sunday and Monday.
