SPRINGFIELD, MA – Sophomore Mackenzie Hagen scored a pair of goals including one on a penalty kick to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team to a convincing 3-0 road victory over American International College Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Hagen finally broke the tie as she headed in a nice crossing pass from senior Alyssa Hackett 14 minutes into the second half to give Roberts (5-3-1) the lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore Elizabeth Miller doubled the lead as she put the finishing touch on a crossing pass from senior Alena Weibel and the Redhawks held a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in the second half.
With 10 minutes remaining, Hagen capped the scoring with a penalty kick to the lower corner of the goal after a rough tackle in the box resulted in a foul, a yellow card and the penalty kick.
After an even first half statistically, the Redhawks held a commanding 8-2 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Mia Tyndell made three saves to earn the win in goal for Roberts.
The Redhawks will have a pair of road conference games next week at D'Youville Tuesday and at Molloy Saturday.
