AMHERST, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team cut a 17-point second-half deficit to five points twice but was unable to complete its comeback attempt, losing 95-90 to Felician in the East Coast Challenge at Daemen University on Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard
Keonjay Carter scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half for the Redhawks (0-2), who trailed 74-57 with 9:21 to play.
Carter also led Roberts, which was behind 47-45 at the half, in rebounds with seven and assists with five.
Freshman guard
Jordan Brown added 19 points for the Redhawks and junior
Trey Kleitz, who was limited to just four minutes in Friday's season opener after rolling his ankle, returned to the lineup to score 14 points, making 4 of his 5 three-point attempts.
Brown's three-pointer brought Roberts within 91-86 with 33 seconds to play in the game, but Felician went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to fend off the rally.
Junior
Khalik Gardner added 12 points for Roberts, which shot 50% from the field (30-for-60) and 43.5% (10 of 23) from three-point range.
The Redhawks will host Mansfield in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Voller Athletic Center.
