ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Collin Woods and
Khalik Gardner combined to score 52 points as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team overcame a 14-point first-half deficit to defeat Mansfield 100-91 in a non-conference game Wednesday night at the Voller Athletic Center.
Woods scored 15 of his 27 points in the second half and Gardner tallied 18 of his 25 in the first as the Redhawks (1-2) registered their firs victory of the season. Freshman
Jordan Brown added 10 points for Roberts while
Trey Kleitz and
Keonjay Carter scored eight apiece.
The Redhawks trailed 22-8 with 12:23 remaining in the first half but used a 40-28 run to pull within two, 50-48, at halftime.
Roberts took a 55-54 lead on a layup by
Greyson Trubia with 18:25 to play and did not trail again. The Redhawks' lead peaked at 13, 79-66, with 9:57 to play.
Woods, who led Roberts with nine rebounds, made 9 of 10 shots from the floor, including 3 of 3 from three-point range.
The Redhawks outscored Mansfield 46-36 in the paint and had a 43-24 advantage in bench points. Roberts turned the ball over just seven times while forcing 12 turnovers by the Mounties.
The game marked the first time Roberts had scored 100 points in a contest since defeating Molloy 107-102 on Dec. 15, 2024.
The Redhawks will travel to Edinboro for a non-conference game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
