Redhawks Top D'Youville To Earn Spot In ECC Semifinals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior Jenna Northup scored in the 67th minute to power the third-seeded Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 6 D'Youville in the first round of the East Coast Conference Championship on Thursday night.

Senior Alyssa Hackett worked the ball along the end line and slid a pass in front to Northup for her sixth goal of the season as the Redhawks earned their fourth consecutive victory.

"We had to be patient tonight against a D'Youville team that was hard to break down," Roberts coach Bobby McColl said. "I'm proud of the composure that we showed in the second half and we got our reward in the end."

Sophomore Mia Tyndell made four saves to record her fifth shutout of the season. Defenders Ileana Cheruiyot, Olivia Holet, Cami Brescia and Emma Taylor all played well.

"Defensively, we were solid for the most part and the one time that Mia was needed she came up with a huge save," McColl said. "The whole back line has been excellent recently."

The Redhawks, who reached the ECC semifinals for the second time in three seasons, outshot D'Youville 22-4 in the match.

Roberts (9-3-4) advances to play at second-seeded Molloy at noon on Sunday. Molloy and Roberts tied 1-1 on Oct. 11.
