ESports Wins First Match in Rocket League Action

ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Brian "lilmoss1wr" Jovel-Martinez scored early goals in the first and second games for the Roberts Wesleyan University ESports team and led the Redhawks to their first victory of the season with a 3-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Monday night.

Roberts (1-2) took early leads in each of the first two games but needed to come back from a 2-0 deficit in the third game to win and clinch the victory.

"This was an amazing team effort to bring home the first win in program history," said Head Coach Aaron Stiles.

Roberts opened the competition with a strong performance from Jovel-Martinez as the freshman scored five times for the victory in the first game.

In game two, the Redhawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead but SNHU battled back to knot the score at 2-2.

Team captain Caleb "occams kbar" Jennings scored the game-winning goal as Roberts took the 2-0 games lead in the match.

In the third game, it was Roberts that trailed 2-0 early in the game but battled back to tie the score at 2-2. With time running out, Hayden "Hectichayman" Kiehl scored a buzzer-beater goal with .01 left on the clock to secure the Roberts victory.

The Rocket League squad will be in competition again February 17 against D'Youville.
