Women’s Swimming and Diving Remains in First After Day Two

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Senior Mya Webb set three school records and a pair of teammates earned a pair of school records each to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Swimming and Diving team on the second day of competition at the Metropolitan Conference Championships Saturday in New Jersey.

Webb was part of two relay records and improved her own record in the 200 Freestyle to help the Redhawks remain in first place in the team standings.

Roberts led with 684 points while Baruch College is close behind in second with 672 points. Gordon College (604 points) is third followed by Sarah Lawrence (528), Mount Saint Mary (482), John Jay College (402), Hunter College (294), Brooklyn College (284) and SUNY Maritime (51).

Webb and the 200 Medley Relay opened the night with a school record as freshman Paige Kern, junior Joane Arzalluz Garzon, Webb and freshman Cara Pillittieri placed third with a record time of 1:56.15.

The Redhawks closed the night with another school record in the 800 Freestyle Relay as Webb, sophomore Haley Welch, Pillittieri and Garzon raced for a winning time of 8:13.03.

Webb also won the 200 Freestyle in record time of 1:53.51. She led three Redhawks in the A-Final as Pillittieri was second in 2:03.40 and Welch placed sixth in 2:10.14.

The Redhawk divers took the top three places on the 3-meter board as junior Emma Dicob won the event with her score of 456.55. Sophomore Sidney Simmons was second with a score of 450.65 and freshman Ashley Oswald took third with her score of 375.45.

Garzon added a third-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with her time of 1:10.52 and sophomore Leanne Dolph placed seventh in the race with her time of 1:20.14. Kern scored A-Final points inb the 100 Backstroke with a seventh-place finish in 1:10.38.

The championships conclude with preliminaries, diving and a finals round Sunday.
