Three-Point Shooting Allows Men’s Basketball to Pull Away

ROCKVILLE CENTER, NY – Graduate student Malik Brooks scored 26 points and seniors Jermaine Taggart II and Ryan Garwood added 21 and 16 points respectively and the trio connected on eight 3-pointers to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team to a 92-75 road victory over Molloy University in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game Sunday afternoon.

Roberts (9-13 overall, 6-6 ECC) raced to a 13-point lead at 48-35 in the first half but Molloy (8-13, 4-6 ECC) rallied early in the second half and trimmed the lead to a single point at 54-53 five minutes into the period.

The Redhawks then outscored the Lions 25-7 over the next eight minutes to regain and cruised to the victory.

Brooks scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half and the Redhawks connected on 12-of-23 (.522) 3-pointers in the game. The team added an impressive 34-for-64 (.531) from the field and 12-of-13 (.923) shooting from the free throw line.

Taggart scored 21 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe while Garwood hit 16 points with four 3-pointers.

Sophomore Keonjay Carter finished with six points, a team-leading seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Roberts is off until February 19 when the team travels to Staten Island and returns home February 22 for Senior Day ceremonies against the University of the District of Columbia.
