ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team came within seconds of completing an improbable comeback on Tuesday afternoon.
Trailing by five goals with 7:33 to play, the Redhawks scored six of the next seven goals before Walsh University came up with a last-second stop to escape with a 15-14 non-conference victory.
Justin Skelly scored with 6:32 left to start the comeback and 
Jacob Zimmerman followed with another goal to bring Roberts (5-4) within three goals, 14-11, 29 seconds later. 
Chase Wilson scored brought the Redhawks closer by converting a feed from Zimmerman with 4:16 remaining.
Walsh scored with 2:28 to play before Gunner MacMillen answered with a beautiful behind-the-back shot to make it 15-13 with 1:11 left.
Zimmerman struck for his fourth goal of the game nine seconds later to give the Redhawks a chance to tie in the final minute.
Roberts won the ensuing face-off, but turned the ball over. The Redhawks forced a turnover and got the ball back with 8.2 seconds to play, but their last shot went wide as time expired.
Zimmerman finished with a career-best four goals and two assists and MacMillan added three goals and an assist for Roberts. Both seniors forced three Walsh turnovers.
Wilson added three goals and Skelly scored two. 
Tyler Clark and 
Cody Coleman each contributed a goal and an assist.
Isaac Marrero won 22 of 30 face-offs and collected 13 ground balls for Roberts. 
Garrett Kayser made 10 saves.
Roberts jumped to an early 3-2 lead before Walsh scored seven straight goals to put the Redhawks in comeback mode for the rest of the afternoon.
Roberts travels to Mercy for an East Coast Conference game against the ninth-ranked Mavericks at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
