ROCHESTER, NY – The Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Lacrosse team fell behind early and fell short in a comeback effort as the Redhawks dropped a 10-7 decision to Molloy University Saturday afternoon on Redhawks Turf Field.
Senior Jacob Zimmerman scored with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter to draw Roberts (5-6 overall, 2-2 ECC) to within a goal at 3-2 but Molloy scored three goals in the final 1:22 of the opening quarter to surge ahead with a 6-2 score after the first 15 minutes of action.
Sophomore Ryan Brown scored his second goal of the game to start the second quarter but the Lions answered with a goal less than two minutes later to maintain the four-goal lead as the teams entered the halftime break with Molloy leading 7-3.
Junior Sam Keens and senior Ryan Prine scored goals in the third quarter to trim the lead to 8-5 at the 45-minute mark of the contest.
Molloy started the final period with a pair of goals to extend the lead to 10-5 before Prine and Zimmerman scored late but late man-down situations slowed the Roberts comeback attempt.
Zimmerman and Brown led the offense with three points each. Juniors Brady Kustra and Liam Linden led a strong defensive effort with a combined five caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Fellow junior Isaac Marrero won 12-of-18 faceoffs and picked up a team-leading six ground balls.
Roberts will finish the home regular season schedule Friday night with a 7 p.m. game against D'Youville as the Redhawks celebrate Senior Night.
