Men’s Volleyball Cruises to ECC Title Match

SPARKILL, NY – Sophomores Paul Fillion had 11 kills and Griffin Monrad added 10 kills to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball team to a convincing 3-0 win over Dominican University Friday afternoon to advance to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament championship game.

Roberts (11-17) won by set scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20 to complete the sweep. The Redhawks will play top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas College at 2 p.m. Saturday in the tournament championship game. STAC downed American International 3-0 with set scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-18.

Fillion led the team with his 11 kills and had an impressive .381 attack percentage. Monrad added 10 kills and a .368 attack percentage as the team combined to hit for a percentage of .282.

Freshman Landon Brouwer handed out a match-high 33 assists and junior Moises Jimenez recorded half the Roberts digs with nine of the 18 in the match.

The Dominican offense struggled with a .014 attack percentage with 23 kills and 22 attack errors and the Roberts defense posted a total of 8.5 blocks with three solo and 11 assists as Fillion led the team with two solo and three assisted blocks.
