CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – Senior Kara Choate scored twice and sophomore Mackenzie Hagen scored her second goal of the season to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team to a 3-1 win at Thomas More University.
The win for Roberts (1-0-1) kept the Redhawks undefeated on the first road trip of the year.
Choate opened the scoring with the lone goal in the first half with an assist on a crossing pass from junior Jenna Northup in the 29th minute. The score was 1-0 Roberts at the halftime intermission.
Hagen doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half with an assist from senior Cami Brescia.
Thomas More (0-2-0) cut the lead in half with less than 12 minutes to play with a shot from the side of the goal on the edge of the 18-yard box that looped over the head of junior goalie Rebecca Hoffman.
With less than five minutes remaining in the contest, Choate sealed the victory as she picked up a loose ball at the top of the box and sent a shot over the goalie's head into the back of the net for the 3-1 lead late in the contest.
Roberts dominated the stat sheet with an 18-3 shots advantage (8-2 shots on goal) and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Hoffman was credited with one save in the Roberts goal.
The Redhawks are in action next Saturday with the first home game of the season at 1 p.m. against Pace University in Roberts Stadium.
