ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team turned up its defense in the second half and pulled away for an 84-64 victory over Mercy University Sunday afternoon in the Voller Athletic Center.
The Redhawks (3-9, 1-3 ECC) held Mercy to 8 of 29 shooting (27.6 percent) from the field while outscoring the Mavericks 41-25 in the final 20 minutes.
"I thought that was a great defensive effort in the second half," Roberts coach
Mark Saladzius said. "We held them to 27% shooting, which is our best effort of the year."
Collin Woods led a balanced Roberts offense with 18 points.
Jordan Brown contributed 16 points,
Keonjay Carter added 14 and
Trey Kleitz made all three of his three-point attempts to finish with 11.
Jaden Lee added nine points for Roberts and
Greyson Trubia led the way with 10 rebounds. Woods and Brown both had seven rebounds and Woods added six assists.
The Redhawks are off until Jan. 21 when they will visit the University of the District of Columbia for an ECC contest.
