GREENSBORO, NC – Sophomore Austin Melvin vaulted to another school record for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team over the weekend and has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Athlete of the Week.
Melvin hit new heights for the Roberts Pole Vault squad over the weekend as he set a new school record for indoor pole vault and became the first Redhawk to clear the 17-foot bar. He won the pole vault competition at the Brockport Rust Buster meet by clearing the 5.18-meter (17' 0") bar. He passed to the 4.75 bar and cleared five consecutive bars on his first try including the 5.18 height. The jump broke his own school record set last year at the NCAA Championships at 5.14 meters (16' 10 ¼").
The Track and Field team is back in action Friday afternoon and evening at the RIT Friday Night meet.
