COLONIA. NJ – Sophomores Kennedy Benjamins and Aaliyah McCoy recorded a pair of second-place finishes for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Track and Field team over the weekend and each earned East Coast Conference (ECC) weekly honors.
Benjamins was second in the pole vault and McCoy sprinted to a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash and they each earned spots on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll.
Benjamins reached new heights over the weekend as she set a new personal best mark of 3.91 meters (12' 10") as she placed second at the Blue and Orange Invitational meet in Utica. She entered the competition with the bar set at 3.61 meters (11' 10") and cleared the bar on her second attempt. She then cleared the next two bars on her first attempt for the new career best effort. The height moved her to Np. 13 in the country and No. 2 in the East Region.
McCoy sprinted to a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the Blue and Orange Invitational at Utica University over the weekend as she tied her career-best time with a finals mark of 7.95 seconds. She qualified for the finals after posting an 8.03 time in the preliminaries as she ranked third out of 61 sprinters.
The Roberts Track and Field teams compete Sunday at the ECC Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island.
