PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore Antonie Pieterse was part of three first-place finishes Saturday to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Swimming and Diving to a strong finish as the Redhawks remained in first place in the team scoring after day two of the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships in New Jersey.
Roberts remained in first place with a two-day total of 1,006 points. Baruch College (943) is second followed by SUNY Maritime, Brooklyn, Gordon College, Mount St. Mary and Sarah Lawrence.
Pieterse won the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.40 and also led a pair of relays to first-place finishes. In the 200 Medley Relay, he teamed with freshman Raphael Weber, freshman Leu Cabanayan and sophomore Ethan Springle for a winning time of 1:34.00.
In the 800 freestyle relay to cap the evening, Pieterse opened the race with a school record in his 200 leg of the race with a time of 1:38.20 to give Roberts a big lead. He teamed with sophomore Derek Woodford, sophomore Tanner Pinto-Cohn and Weber for the win in 7:02.59 for another school record.
In the 100 butterfly race, freshman Anthony Merced and fellow freshman Jonathan Harvey were first and second in the B-Final with times of 57.27 and 58.34 respectively.
Weber added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.71. Springle was third in the race with his time of 55.17 and senior Dylan Baker placed eighth with a time of 1:00.08. Junior Jaden Parshall won the B-Final with his time of 1:00.40.
In diving, junior Brodyn Baldwin scored first-place points by winning the 3-meter competition with a score of 301.80. Freshman Joel Fesmire was second with a score of 298.85.
Merced was second and sophomore Brayden Mitchell was sixth in the 400 IM, Pinto-Cohn was third in the 200 free and Cabanayan was fourth in the 100 breaststroke for the Redhawks.
Competition concludes Sunday with the team champions and individual awards announced at the conclusion of the event.
