Second-Half Surge Carries Redhawks To Victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior Collin Woods made back-to-back three-point shots to cap a 13-0 second-half run as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team rallied for an 80-62 victory over Queens College in an East Coast Conference game Sunday afternoon in the Voller Athletic Center.

Roberts trailed 42-37 with 16:26 to play and outscored the Knights 43-20 the rest of the way.

Trey Kleitz started the comeback with a three-pointer, Jordan Brown tied the game with a driving layup and Hadi Alshami put the Redhawks (6-14, 4-8 ECC) ahead 42-40. Woods, who scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half followed by making two straight shots from beyond the arc.

"It was a matter of us maintaining our standards," Roberts coach Mark Saladzius said. "The defense dictates our offense, it's not the other way around, and once we figured that out we played a lot better."

Brown added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Redhawks, who extended their winning streak to three.

Alshami and Khalik Gardner both contributed 11 points and Keonjay Carter scored 10. Woods finished with six rebounds and six assists.

Roberts shot 52.7% percent from the floor (29 of 55) and held Queens to 35.7% shooting. The Redhawks also made 13 of 16 free throws (81.3%).

The Redhawks close out their three-game homestand with an ECC matchup against the University of the District of Columbia at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
