Redhawks Use Big Run To Earn Win In Opener

CANTON, Ohio – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team scored six straight goals in a 15-minute stretch spanning the first and second quarter to overcome an early three-goal deficit on the way to a 15-7 win over Malone in their season-opener on Monday afternoon.

Junior Ryan Brown scored three goals during the run while Colin Duncan added two and Chase Wilson scored one. The outburst gave the Redhawks a 6-3 lead that they did not relinquish.

The win was the Redhawks' first under new head coach Rocky Delfino Jr.

"We had some guys step up and show leadership," Delfino said. "We have a lot to learn and we will get back to work tomorrow."

Duncan, a sophomore transfer from the University at Albany, led the way with six goals and two assists in his first game as a Redhawk.

Brown and Wilson both scored three goals while Cody Coleman, Isaac Marrero and Liam Linden all added one.

Marrero went 15-for-22 on face-offs and led the Redhawks with nine ground balls.

Senior Garrett Kayser made eight saves. Linden and fellow senior Brady Kustra each caused two turnovers.

Roberts held a 46-17 advantage in ground balls and forced 26 turnovers in the game.

The Redhawks will remain in Ohio before taking on Walsh University on Wednesday.
