ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Ryan DeJohn recorded 20 kills in the opening match and junior Griffin Monrad added a team-leading 12 kills in the second match as the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball won both matches as part of a special President's Day Tri-Match at the Voller Athletic Center.
Roberts (8-6) defeated Merrimack College 3-1 to start the day and then topped D'Youville University 3-0 to complete the sweep in the afternoon match. Merrimack defeated D'Youville 3-0 in the middle match of the day.
Against Merrimack (3-7), the Redhawks won the first set 25-23 but the Warriors bounced back to even the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. Roberts rallied for a 25-17 win in the third and completed the victory with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
DeJohn was on fire with 20 kills and a .317 attack percentage with five blocks and three digs. Senior Moises Jimenez led the team with 11 digs and sophomore Landon Brouwer added 41 assists and 10 digs for a double-double. Freshman Jordan Hoover had eight kills with a .533 attack percentage, 11 blocks and six digs. Fellow freshman Jayce Moore added nine kills for the Redhawks.
Against D'Youville (1-9), the Redhawks won by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-20.
Monrad led the team with 12 kills and a .333 attack percentage and four blocks while freshman Gavin Terp added eight kills and a .636 attack percentage. Sophomores Andrew Howe and Brouwer split time in the setter role and each finished with 16 assists. Howe added four aces and five digs.
Jimenez led the defense with six digs and fellow senior Noah Liousfi chipped in five blocks and three digs.
Roberts is on the road for the next three weeks with double matches at Maryland Eastern Shore, Houghton and Long Island University before returning home March 9 to face Judson University.
