Late Rally Falls Short for Men’s Volleyball in Maryland

PRINCESS ANNE, MD – Freshman Jayce Moore recorded a match-high 16 kills for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball team but an early deficit was too much to overcome as the Redhawks dropped a 3-1 decision to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Thursday afternoon.

UMES (11-5) won the first two sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-17 but Roberts (8-8) rallied to win the third set 25-23. In the fourth set, the Redhawks battled back to within a point at 20-19 but dropped five of the final six points to end the match.

Moore led all players with his 16 kills while sophomore Ryan DeJohn added 11 kills and nine digs. Fellow sophomore Landon Brouwer recorded 38 assists and was tied for the team lead with DeJohn with nine digs.

Roberts returns to New York and will play a pair of matches at Houghton University Saturday. The matches – originally scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. have been moved to 5 and 7 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict with Empire 8 Women's Basketball tournament action at Houghton.
