STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team enters the final week of the regular season holding down the final spot for the East Coast Conference Championship playoffs.
The Redhawks (7-15, 5-9 ECC) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end in an 85-74 loss at the College of Staten Island on Sunday afternoon, but remain in the sixth position in the conference standings following Queens College's loss to Saint Thomas Aquinas College. Queens is 4-10 in ECC play.
Roberts fell behind by as many as 18 points in the first half before regrouping to take a 52-51 lead on a free throw by
Jordan Brown with 13:36 to play. The Dolphins responded with an 11-0 run and the Redhawks were unable to cut their deficit to less than five points the rest of the way.
Brown and
Khalik Gardner both scored 14 points to lead Roberts. Junior
Collin Woods stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 12 rebounds and five assists and
Mohamed Soumahoro added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Junior guard
Trey Kleitz scored six points on a pair of three-pointers and now has 101 treys in his career at Roberts.
The Redhawks will host fourth-ranked Daemen at 8 p.m. on Sunday and wrap up their regular season against D'Youville at 4 p.m. Saturday in the VAC.
