Second Half Run Downs Men’s Basketball on the Road

SPARKILL, NY – Junior Collin Woods scored a game-high 20 points for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team but a late second half run by St. Thomas Aquinas College gave the Spartans an 86-74 win Friday night in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game.

Woods hit a pair of free throws near the end of the first half to give Roberts (3-14 overall, 1-8 ECC) a slim lead but STAC (13-10, 9-2) hit a last second basket to tie the game at 37-37 as the teams entered the halftime intermission.

The game was close for a majority of the second half and back-to-back jumpers by Woods and fellow junior Khalik Gardner trimmed the lead to just seven points at 73-66 with 5:45 left to play.

The Spartans responded with a 13-0 run to take control of the game with an 85-66 lead with 3:13 remaining.

Woods led all scorers with his 20 points while freshman Jordan Brown added 17 points and junior Keonjay Carter added 13 points. Brown added a team-high eight rebounds.

The Redhawks continue the ECC road trip Sunday at Mercy University.
