WORCESTER, Mass. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team scored first but could not overcome a big run by Assumption University on Sunday afternoon.
Chase Wilson gave the Redhawks an early 1-0 advantage with a man-up goal just 1:41 into the game, but Assumption closed the first quarter with nine straight goals and defeated the Redhawks 13-5 in a non-conference game.
Wilson and
Colin Duncan both scored twice for Roberts (1-3) and
Preston Steve scored once.
Ryan Brown had two assists and
Liam Linden registered one.
Linden led Redhawk defenders with five caused turnovers and
Connor Pearce contributed three.
Landon Brimmer stopped 13 of the 15 shots he faced for Roberts while
Garrett Kayser made nine saves.
Assumption outshot Roberts 45-30 and held a 16-3 advantage in face-offs.
The Redhawks will return to action on Saturday for a non-conference game against Southern New Hampshire University at on William G. Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse Facility in Sparks, Md.
