BALTIMORE, MD – Freshman Nixon Karcz scored a pair of goals and senior Liam Linden grabbed six ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Lacrosse team but an early deficit was too much to overcome as the Redhawks dropped a 10-4 decision to Southern New Hampshire University Saturday morning at the USA Lacrosse Facility in Maryland.
Roberts (1-3) won all four faceoffs and had nine shots in the opening quarter but could not score and fell behind 3-0 after 15 minutes of action.
Karcz scored his first career goal to open the second period but the Penmen (4-0) scored four straight goals to extend their lead to 7-1.
Junior Colton Ugine scored late in the third quarter to stop the run and trim the lead.
SNHU used a 3-1 scoring run to open the final quarter to extend the lead. Sophomore Chase Wilson scored in the middle of the run and Karcz scored with 31 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
Senior Isaac Marrero led the Redhawks with nine ground balls and won 11-of-15 faceoffs.
Sophomore Landon Brimmer made 13 saves in his first start of the season.
Roberts will open the East Coast Conference (ECC) schedule on the road next weekend at Molloy University before finally playing a home game March 25 against Lake Erie College.
