Huge Run Give Men’s Lacrosse a Key Road Win

BUFFALO, NY – Sophomore Chase Wilson scored six goals including four in a huge 11-0 run in the second half as the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Lacrosse team ran away with a 16-8 win Saturday in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game at D'Youville.

Roberts (5-6 overall, 3-2 ECC) fell behind early allowing the first three goals of the game in the first 12 minutes of action.

Junior Preston Steve scored with 1:41 left in the first quarter to spar a 3-0 scoring run for the Redhawks that tied the game. Wilson scored with 42 seconds left in the first and sophomore Colin Duncan tied the game with his goal 48 seconds into the second period.

D'Youville (8-5, 2-3 ECC) regained the lead midway through the quarter before Wilson tied the score at 4-4 with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Isaac Marrero won the ensuing faceoff and raced in to score just 12 seconds later to give the Redhawks a 5-4 lead.

The Saints scored to tie the game before the break and then scored the first goal of the third quarter to take a 6-5 lead.

That is when the momentum changed and Roberts went on a huge 11-0 run that started at the 13:40 mark of the third and lasted all the way to the 5:54 mark of the final quarter – nearly a 23-minute span.

Wilson scored four times including three in a row in the run while Duncan, freshman Nixon Karcz and sophomore Cody Coleman each scored twice in the run. Senior Connor Pearce notched his first career goal in the middle of the rally.

Marrero finished 15-for-20 at the face off X and picked up a team-leading nine ground balls and sophomore Landon Brimmer made 10 saves for the win. It was his sixth game with at least 10 saves.

Roberts will wrap up the regular season next weekend with a home game against St. Thomas Aquinas College as the team celebrates Senior Day on Saturday.
