Redhawks Fend Off STAC On Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Chase Wilson scored five goals as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas College 11-9 on Saturday to secure a spot in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.

The victory was the third straight for the Redhawks (6-6, 4-2 ECC), who earned the No. 4 seed for the ECC postseason championship and will travel to play top-seeded Molloy at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wilson, who scored four of his goals in the first half, converted a feed from Colin Duncan to give Roberts a 9-5 lead at halftime.

STAC (4-11, 1-5 ECC) rallied to cut the Redhawks' lead to 10-9 with 8:41 remaining in the fourth quarter before Wilson finished a pass from Colton Ugine to complete the scoring with 6:26 to play.

Ugine finished with three points with a goal and two assists and Cody Coleman and Ryan Brown both added a goal and an assist for the Redhawks. Killian Cici, Nixon Karcz and Brady Kustra also scored for Roberts.

Kustra, a defender, led Roberts with four caused turnovers and scooped seven ground balls. Fellow senior Isaac Marrero won 12 of 20 face-offs and also collected seven ground balls and an assist.

Senior Garrett Kayser started the game and made six saves for Roberts. Sophomore Landon Brimmer added two saves in 24:01 of game action.

The Redhawks honored seniors Kayser, Kustra, Marrero, Sam Keens, Liam Linden, Connor Pearce, Preston Steve and RT "Ty" Stevenson in a ceremony before the game. Roberts also recognized former head coach Rocky Delfino, who helped start the program in 2011 and coached for 14 seasons before stepping aside this spring.
