Kraf Hits Career High to Place 2nd at NCAA Championships

EMPORIA, KS – Sophomore Karis Kraf cleared a career-high 13' 7 ¼" and placed second overall to earn First Team All-American honors Thursday at the NCAA Division II Championships. Kraf was joined by fellow sophomore Kennedy Benjamins with All-American honors as Benjamins placed ninth to earn Second Team All-American honors.

Also competing Thursday was graduate student Jackson Doran who clocked a 3:50.84 in the 1500 meters race. Doran missed the qualifying mark for the Saturday finals in the race by just .33 seconds. The top 12 finalists were all at 3:50.51 or faster.

Kraf opened the competition at 3.95 meters (12' 11 ½") and cleared the height on her third attempt. The sophomore used all three attempts at the next bar as well clearing the 4.05 meters (13' 3 ½") bar on her third attempt.

At the 4.15 meters (13' 7 ¼") height, Kraf cleared the bar on her first try and five vaulters were eliminated securing the First Team All-American honors with at least a top-five finish. Only one vaulter was able to clear the next height as Breanne Peters from Pittsburg State hit the mark to win the championship title.

Kraf earned second place with the career-best vault of 4.15-meters with no misses.

Benjamins cleared three bars including the 4.05 meters (13' 3 ½") bar before bowing out of the competition and placed ninth overall with four misses at previous heights.

Both Kraf and Banjamins earned First Team All-American honors at the Indoor Championships in March.
