Redhawks Rally to Remain Unbeaten

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Sam Cipolla scored in the 89th minute Friday to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team to a 1-1 tie against nationally ranked Saint Michael's College at Roberts Stadium.

Saint Michael's (2-0-2), ranked No. 12 in the latest coaches national poll, broke a scoreless tie with 5:51 left to play in the second half on a rebound of a saved penalty kick. Senior Rebecca Hoffman made the initial stop on the penalty kick with a diving stop but the Purple Knights reached the loose ball first and knocked in the rebound for the 1-0 lead late.

Roberts (3-0-3) turned on the offensive pressure for the next four minutes before Cipolla pulled down a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and turned on the defender and volleyed a left-footed shot into the top of the goal to knot the score at 1-1 with 1:41 left on the clock.

Saint Michael's held a 9-5 shots edge but the shots on goal were nearly equal at 4-3 in favor of the Purple Knights. The visitors also held a commanding 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Roberts returns to action Tuesday with another non-conference home game and the Redhawks host Southern New Hampshire University at 4 p.m. in Roberts Stadium.
