ROCHESTER, NY – The Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Field Hockey team limited nationally-ranked Bloomsburg to just one second-half goal but fell by a final score of 5-0 Friday night on Redhawks Turf Field.
Bloomsburg (5-0), ranked No. 6 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Poll, scored once in the first quarter on a penalty corner and then added three goals in the second stanza to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
In the second half, a lone goal in the third quarter was the only goal score in the final 30 minutes.
The best Roberts (2-2) opportunity came in the fourth quarter when freshman Ashlyn Hermanofski intercepted a clearing attempt near midfield and raced into the arch before passing off to junior Peyton Ayer but a pass to fellow junior Avery Carinci near the corner of the cage was intercepted and cleared out of the offensive zone.
The Huskies held an 11-3 shots advantage and senior Avery Richardson finished with four saves in nearly the entire game.
Roberts returns to action Tuesday against another nationally-ranked opponent as Slippery Rock University travels to Rochester for a 4 p.m. game.
