Men's Basketball Visits Mercy and St. Thomas Aquinas This Weekend

The Redhawks are looking to get back into the win column after a pair of close losses at home last weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 15, 2015) – The Men's Basketball hopes to snap their two-game losing skid this weekend as they hit the road to take on Mercy and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Tip-off against the Mavericks is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while game time for Saturday's clash against St. Thomas Aquinas is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
 
SCOUTING MERCY (6-5, 1-5 ECC)
The Mavericks are riding high as of late as they have won three of their last four games. Prior to that, Mercy had dropped four straight after starting the season 3-0… Mercy is averaging  a respectable 75.6 points per game as Jeremiah Brown leads the Mavericks with 13.4 points per game. Two other players are scoring in double-digits thus far with Jason Quijada scoring 11.7 points and Gerald McClease averaging 10.2 points… McClease, a junior forward, also leads Mercy with his 6.5 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (7-8, 4-2 ECC)
The Spartans are looking to get back on track after having lost three of their last four, including a narrow 68-62 loss at LIU Post last Saturday. Their last win came against NYIT on January 7 as they downed the Bears, 82-69… St. Thomas Aquinas has four players scoring in double-digits with Chaz Watler leading the pack with 14.1 points per game. The sophomore guard is shooting 42.4 percent from long range this season, placing him fifth in the conference in that statistic… The Spartans top rebounder is freshman Justin Reyes, who is hauling in 7.5 boards per game. The newcomer is also averaging 10.1 points each contest.

SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (6-5, 2-3 ECC)
After having dropped to ECC games at home to start the new year, the Redhawks are hoping to right the ship on the road this weekend. After falling to Bridgeport, 87-74, last Friday night, Roberts Wesleyan narrowly lost to Dowling, 72-70 last Saturday… Senior forward Isaac Medeiros has been a steady force under the basket this season as he leads the Redhawks with 15.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game…  Defensively, Roberts Wesleyan ranks third in the conference as they hold their opponents to 42.3 percent shooting from the field… Offensively, the team ranks second in the ECC with their 45.6 shooting percentage.
