Men’s Tennis Come From Behind to Beat University of Rochester

Rochester, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester on Wednesday afternoon 6-3 to extend their win streak to eight games.
 
The Redhawks, who are ranked No. 8 regionally found themselves down 2-1 against the No. 16 ranked Yellow Jackets after doubles play. G. Plentz de Liz and Dennis Barlotta won 8-6 at No.2 doubles to avoid a doubles sweep. Roberts Wesleyan then claimed wins in five out of the six singles matches to get the win over Division III University of Rochester.
 
Following the doubles win Plentz de Liz and Barlotta also won their singles matches. Plentz de Liz defeated Yifan Shen 6-4, 6-1 in No. 4 singles while Barlotta defeated Sam Leeman in a back-and-forth match 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 3 singles.
 
Junior Hugo Ball-Greene's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Masaru Fujimaki put the Redhawks back in control of the match.  Then freshman Paul Langbroek clinched the match at No. 2 singles winning over Andrew Nunno 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
 
Langbroek, a native of Munich, Germany is undefeated in singles play on the year at 8-0 and is approaching a Roberts Wesleyan record for consecutive singles matches won.
 
"This was a great win for us over a very talented, well coached University of Rochester team," head coach Tom Linhart said. "We played very tough, focused and smart. This was a pressure filled match and when the chips were down we really came through."
 
Roberts Wesleyan (8-0) look to continue their win streak as they approach a program record for most consecutive team wins. The team will play at the Daemen Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
