Men's Tennis Stuns Post University in Fall Finale

WATERBURY, Conn. - Senior co-captain Jose Carrillo and freshman Guido Janssen were double winners yesterday as the Redhawks men's tennis team closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 6-3 win on the road over Post University.  Post is currently ranked as the #4 team in the East Region.

"This was a big win for us over a team that went to the NCAA tournament last spring," said head coach Tom Linhart. " It gives us some momentum going into the off season."

Post opened the scoring with close wins at first and second doubles.  Carrillo and Janssen got Roberts on the board with an 8-1 win at third doubles over Ivan Rajevac and Nick Engelmann. Janssen then opened the singles portion of the match with a three set win over Rajevac at third singles. With the score tied, freshman Harmeet Luthra put the Redhawks in the lead for good with a straight sets victory over Engelmann at fifth singles.  Carrillo stretched the lead with a three set win over Joe Alford at sixth singles.  Senior co-captain Hugo Ball-Greene clinched the win for the Redhawks with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Nikola Crvelin at first singles.  Sophomore Dennis Barlotta finished the scoring with a three set thriller, defeating Ludwig Hendrickson 3-6, 7-6(1),  10-5.

The Redhawks open the spring portion of their season on Saturday, February 10 when they host Salem International University out of West Virginia at MidTown Athletic Club.
