WATERBURY, Conn. - Senior co-captain Jose Carrillo and freshman Guido Janssen were double winners yesterday as the Redhawks men's tennis team closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 6-3 win on the road over Post University. Â Post is currently ranked as the #4 team in the East Region. Â
"This was a big win for us over a team that went to the NCAA tournament last spring," said head coach Tom Linhart. " It gives us some momentum going into the off season."
Post opened the scoring with close wins at first and second doubles. Â Carrillo and Janssen got Roberts on the board with an 8-1 win at third doubles over Ivan Rajevac and Nick Engelmann. Janssen then opened the singles portion of the match with a three set win over Rajevac at third singles. With the score tied, freshman Harmeet Luthra put the Redhawks in the lead for good with a straight sets victory over Engelmann at fifth singles. Â Carrillo stretched the lead with a three set win over Joe Alford at sixth singles. Â Senior co-captain Hugo Ball-Greene clinched the win for the Redhawks with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Nikola Crvelin at first singles. Â Sophomore Dennis Barlotta finished the scoring with a three set thriller, defeating Ludwig Hendrickson 3-6, 7-6(1), Â 10-5.
The Redhawks open the spring portion of their season on Saturday, February 10 when they host Salem International University out of West Virginia at MidTown Athletic Club.
